Japan-import luxury MPVs have become the prestige vehicle of choice in Malaysia. The three most common are the Toyota Alphard, Toyota Vellfire, and Nissan Elgrand.
Toyota Alphard
The Alphard is the most recognisable. The executive lounge configuration with power ottoman seats is the most sought-after. The 3.5L V6 is smooth and powerful; the 2.4L hybrid is more fuel-efficient. Resale value is excellent.
Toyota Vellfire
Mechanically identical to the Alphard. The Vellfire has a more aggressive front fascia. Generally RM 10,000–20,000 cheaper than an equivalent Alphard due to lower brand recognition in Malaysia.
Nissan Elgrand
The Elgrand offers a more distinctive interior and is generally RM 30,000–50,000 cheaper than an equivalent Alphard. Parts availability is slightly lower than Toyota.
Which should you buy?
